Sex is the new black, according to Myla, which distinguishes itself from other designer labels by designing things to go on the inside of your body. External requirements are also catered for by ‘eclectic’ lingerie; accessories in leather, suede, satin and, um, feathers; a ‘Bed, Bath and Body’ line based on herbal aphrodisiacs; and a condom range featuring two styles, of which the optimistic ‘After Dinner’ box features ten of each.

But the centrepiece of the company’s launch, and the angle (in case you were wondering) that caught the attention of Twenty/20, is a range of ‘toys’ created by the likes of Tom Dixon and Marc Newson. ‘Although designed for pleasure,’ purrs the press release, ‘they are individual works of art.’ Yet so much more practical than Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

Yes, they are talking about what you think they’re talking about. I can’t comment on the products, because, due to the vagaries of production deadlines, I haven’t seen them at the time of writing, even though you may be looking at pictures of them here. But, despite giggly memories of the ‘iBrator’ spoof, it has to be said that it’s about time someone with a bit of design nous turned their attention to the humble sex toy. And yes, they have got some women on the case too. Mari-Ruth Oda and Tara Cottam have already established reputations as… well, sculptors.

I can’t immediately think of a witty response to that, but when the range appears on 15 September you can insert your own.
