Sprite Graffiti Packs

In print on 31 October 2003

Sprite can by TemperNow hear dis, da Coca Cola Company of Great Britain and Ireland be hangin wit a new crew… oh, let’s not even go there.

Thing is, some tie-wearing putz deep in the bowels of the beverage colossus apparently had this idea of linking citrusy goo Sprite with street culture, and from this fundamentally flawed concept was born the mutant offspring that was the Sprite Urban Games. And out of this, if you’re keeping up, sprang a deal between the aforementioned soft drink and slightly famous British graffiti artist Temper.

Why oh why, you groan, do we even begin to care? Because, if you’ll just hold on a sec, this ill-fated partnership has produced some not at all bad packaging for a pair of special edition cans and bottles that are set to bring street art to da (sorry) supermarket from May.

‘For so long,’ bemoans Temper, ‘street art has not really been recognised as a credible art form…’ Er, sorry, where on earth have you been? Didn’t you see Basquiat? Have you missed all this year’s European fashion weeks? No, quite frankly street art has nothing to worry about. Getting Sprite recognised as a credible tipple, now that’s a challenge.
