The Ultimate Guide to Windows 7

Cover: Ultimate Guide to Windows 7

Windows 7 is the most significant upgrade to Microsoft’s PC operating system since 2001. Dennis Publishing’s MagBook on the subject is likely to be one of their best sellers this year*, and since they liked the way I designed its predecessor (on the somewhat less inspiring Vista), they asked me back.

Clarity and authority were the essentials here, but it was also important to make the book visually engaging; reading about operating systems can get just a tad dry, after all. With care and creativity, even an annotated screenshot or a page of keyboard shortcuts can look attractive.

I templated and designed the 160pp book (including the covers), subedited all the copy (with additional research and writing where required) and supplied press-ready CMYK InDesign CS3 files for output to PDF. The editor was Tim Danton and production was by the indefatigable team at PC Pro.

The Ultimate Guide to Windows 7 is now available from newsagents.

*UPDATE: Yes, it was.
